Local Number Portability · Number Portability · LRN dip
Local Number Portability lets a subscriber keep an E.164 number when changing carriers. Originating switches query an NPDB (often via TCAP/AIN or ENUM) and route on the returned Location Routing Number (LRN) instead of the dialed NPA-NXX. NPAC/SOA provisioning keeps the regional databases in sync.
